Increased sense of salt

Increased sense of salt

My daughter has become more sensitive to the taste of salt. While we are using the same amount of salt in our cooking that she has grown up on, she complains at each meal that there is too much salt. Is there a reason that you know of for this higher "awareness" of salt?

Are you sure that you are using the same amount of salt in cooking as ever?  Is there a possibility that the person doing the cooking has changed the amount of salt over time?

Or maybe some of the foods in her diet are less salty, such as the food at school, and she is noticing that the salt in the home food is greater.

Generally speaking, it's not a bad idea to cut back on salt in the diet (people get too much) so I wouldn't discourage it.  If you are wondering if salt sensitivity is a symptom of a physical condition, well, it might be, the opposite (salt craving) is sometimes a symptom.  You could check that with a doctor, or google "salt sensitivity."

I would also make sure your daughter is getting enough potassium from fruit, and enough exercise.
