Abilify not working anymore-HELP!

by triedeverymed, Jul 26, 2008 10:38PM
I have always suffered from major depression and a mood disorder even though they don't come out and say it's bipolar, they treat is as such and it's helped. I've been on Abilify for a year now and I was doing so well but now I'm tired all the time, have no motivation, and feel overall blah!
I see my pdoc next week and I wonder if I need a new mood stabelizer or a higher dose of Abilify. I'm even on Vyvanse for a "touch" of ADD and I still have no energy (Vyvanse is a stimulant). I go to the gym and I don't feel better, I eat right, take my supplements but I can't get out of this place where I want to be alone all the time.
Has anyone else ever felt that? Is that depression or a part of being bipolar. I'm so confused right now about what path to take and wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions about mood stabelizers (not Geodon) that they have had success with that I could bring up to my doctor. He's very willing to try new things.
Thanks for reading this!!

Namaste,

I've been diagnoised with Bipolar I and sometimes experience the same symptoms you describe, even though I/m on medication.

I find however, that after a period of time(usually 1-2 weeks) the symptoms go away and I'm back to my old self.

If you feel that Abilify is not the proper medication for you, I take 400 mg. of Lamictal, 30 mg. of Remeron and 10 mg. of Valium 4 times a day.

Whether these would help is not known unless you try them, but Lamictal is often used with bipolar disorder when it's difficult to treat with the more common medications.

I sincerely hope you're appointment goes well and that you can resolve the symptoms you're currently experiencing.

That is exactly how I have been feeling lately. Some days are better than others, but in general, 'blah' is a very good description. I have been on the same med combo now for over 2 years... I think it is time to change the meds as well. I do not see my doctor for another month so in the mean time I am searching for other options as well.  Good luck with your search. I do not have any advice to give you, just know you are not alone. - Jen
