Aftermath of Writing to Psy Doc

by bastet56, Apr 29, 2009 08:26PM
I wrote my psy doc last week about the quality of my care. She called me last night. The jist of the conversation was that I should come in more often. If I should have been coming in more often why didn't she say something instead of just saying see you in 3mths? When I asked her why she kept recommending the same meds every month that I cannot take and giving me samples of meds that are related to them she just hemmed and hawed and told me if I want a second opinion that I should get one. (!) I told her that I thought she was over scheduled and stretched too thin but that was her choice. I also told her that I didn't expect her to remember everything about me but that I was frustrated with her care. She did not apologize or suggest anything other than to come in more or find another psy doc. So much for patient care and helping people with chronic psychiatric illnesses. I have made an appt with another psy doc for the 14th of May. Hopefully this dr will take patient care seriously and actually help with this BP hell.

Good for you for standing up and saying something.  Most people just sort of fall victim to these pdocs that they are not qualified in mood disorders and so forth.  I think it's great.  Good for you.

Makes sense and I support your feelings but she may have disregarded it. If she works for a clinic or hospital its best to write to or speak to the complaint department. If I have a concern I can work out with a provider I address it with them specifically. If I intend to discontinue care because of concerns I might write above them although that's extremely rare. One thing about these short appointments and being given a prescription and little talk it all depends on what your coverage is. That can be very typical for a clinic covered through Medicaid or other benefits. I have a psychiatrist in private practice but not all coverage will pay for that. Its very common with people I've worked with to see a different person each time and just have a supervisory psychiatrist speak to those people but that's often how overstretched and underfunded these places are not so much the specific providers.
