Am I losing it?

Am I losing it?

A month ago, I began having vivid nightly dreams in which I am out of control; screaming, kicking, throwing myself on the ground and horrifying friends and family.  This is uncharacteristic because I am rational and little troubled by emotion.  That is, until lately.  I have had in the past year episodes of sudden fear, sadness or rage which were difficult to suppress.  At 55, I have yet to miss my first period, so menopause seems unlikely.  My father was institutionalized most of his adult life with manic depression, psychotic features.  A few years ago, I had a neurological work up for complaints of hearing voices, muscle weakness and numb hands.  I was diagnosed with narcolepsy after a MSLT. The neurologist orders an MRI every year.  QUESTION:  Does the narcolepsy explain my incipient loss of control?  Or are genetics catching up with me?  Do I need to see a psychiatrist? (my husband just started on Aricept, so yes,, there's stress

I would suggest the neurologist follow up with a sleep study to find out exactly what's going on during your disrupted sleep. Perhaps post the question in the neurology forum.
