Bad days and rocking

I was wondering how many other people have a tendancy to rock themselves when they're having a bad day. I seem to do it more when I'm manic. I've been having a lot of highs the last week. I can't concentrate and then I find myself sitting in a chair rocking slowly back and forth. Does anyone else do this, for mania or depression? What does it mean?

Rocking during times of distress is a natural coping technique. I do something similiar. Perhaps it comforts you because you were rocked as a baby when in distress. I do something similiar. I put my thumb up to my mouth like I am sucking it when I am thinking or stressed. I believe this is a comfort coping technique that is from my baby days.

I have been known to rock if I'm having a bad day. Usually it means I'm stressed to the max. I would love it if my husband would rock me. LOL

It must be. I don't rock when I'm laying down, except sometimes my husband when we lie down, he hugs me and then he sort of rocks me a little, but not for long like 10 seconds or so. I like that because that does calm me down.

There is just something about the sensation of swaying. :(

Not sure what it means, but I do it when I am feeling really energised or agitated, it is one of the only things that calms me down when I get into a bad state. For me I lie down and rock myself rather than sit in a chair. If I'm lucky I eventually fall asleep. It's gotta be a calming thing do you think?
