Bipolar and epilepsy connection?

Bipolar and epilepsy connection?

I had a couple of epileptic seizures as a kid that I grew out of it in my teens. I also slept walked had night terrors that seemed to happen around the take time. I was on tegretol for a few years then it was over. I was diagnosed with ADHD and mild OCD in highschool and bipolar about 2 years ago.  I'm now 26. My question is, can the seizures and bipolar be connected?

Good question. I know that many anti-convulsants treat bipolar but that doesn't neccessarily mean they are connected, just that the same treatment works on both. Epilepsy of course is (to summarize it) overactivity in any part of the brain (it need not be the part that would create standard seizures, if it occurs in the area of the brain that controls thoughts, temporal lobe epilespy can occur, epilepsy is clinically complex and would be worth reading more about in detail). Bipolar is believed to be caused by overactivity in the limbic (emotional) part of the brain so many forms of neurological or psychiatric disabilities could be treated with an anti-convulsant. For example I take an anti-convulsant for tardive dyskinesia and several are in use for that purpose. Anti convulsants have been found useful for many purposes but that doesn't neccessarily mean the conditions are clinically related.
