I have been diagnosed with the disorder for a year now. Bit bout me used to work in finance as an investment broker until I figured the system and ended $50k in debt and had nothing to show for it. My mother has Bipolar and I watched her go through massive episodes and figured I best take my meds and get with the program.

My question is....Can I drink with Lithium or will I lose the plot??? For the last 5 years I have partied hard massive amounts of drugs, and booze year after year. That was obviously a key to unlock my episodes but how much can I drink now? I have come to the realization that is ridicolous to live that lifestyle. I would drink on average 20-30 standard drinks in a night out varying sometimes. Now I do not want to consume nothing like this anymore. BUT I would like to go and enjoy a night out once a week or so and have a few maybe four or five....With my tolerance to alcohol would that affect me that much as usually I would be just typsy of that much. Heading overseas to live and would like to live the moment slightly instead of being a dry root.

Would REALLY appreciate some advice or personal accounts....

Yep, I take Lithium and decided to give it all up.  I used to enjoy drinking a little and smoking a lot of pot.  I love being stable more than getting a buzz!  All the research I did on Lithium discussed how bad it is to mix in drugs and alcohol.  Also bipolar and substance abuse does not mix, it makes things a lot worse!

I am not on any form of illicit drug anymore had my hayday with that gear. What if I say have 6 beers once a week and between every 2 beers have a couple of glasses of water to flush it out?

I had detox and haven't drank while on drugs for six years.  Docs say, "If you drink while taking lith, you might as well not take the lith at all."  It goes right into the toilet, drugs and money.  Lith will fizzle out if you drink a moderate amount.
