Can't Talk....Catatonic?

I have just spent the last two hours not being able to talk.  There is nothing wrong with me physically, I just can't talk, and then all of a sudden it comes back.  It worries my husband a lot.  Have any of you ever suffered from this?

What causes this?  This is the second time that it has happened to me, stress seems to be a factor.  My social security case is under review, they could take away my benefits.  I am really stressed about that.  Suicidal thoughts run rampant through my brain.  I've even thought about hurting myself to take away some of the mental pain.

Anyway, back to the issue at hand, is there a way to "snap out of it"?  Please tell me if you have any suggestions.

Catatonia is a severe symptom of psychosis. Suicidal thoughts are of immediate concern. Speak to your psychiatrist right away. If your Social Security case is under review they are evaluating your disability. If it is as bad as you describe have detailed information from psychiatrist presenting that to them and they would surely continue your benefits. Stress of course could be worsening it. If you need an in person consultation as regards benefits issues you could go to your local independent living center:
