Does anyone have any ideas on what meds I can try

Does anyone have any ideas on what meds I can try other than Depakote, Cymbalta, and Geodon?  What experience have people had with prozac?  I'm thinking that a change in antidepressant is what I need.  I will be switching to another psychiatrist soon, because my current one is leaving his practice.  Hopefully I will  get a new start on some new meds that can help me.

I had Prozac added onto my Lamictal a few weeks ago, and it's actually worked wonderfully. I didn't have much luck with Wellbutrin (plus the tremors were hard to deal with) and Lexapro just made me manic. I was originally put on Lithium when first hospitalized, and I didn't have too many problems with it. But the thing to consider is that every person's biochemistry is different, and every person is going to have a different experience... I hope you can find something that works!

When do you see your new Psychiatrist?

Everyone will react differently with medications, so the best I can offer you is what is currently "working" for me.   What symptoms are you looking to immediately address?

With me, my agitation is one of my main concerns, along with lack of energy/concentration.  So, right now I am working with my Psychiatrist to address the agitation part (the lack of energy/concentration is for the most part taken care of).  I am currently taking Abilify, which I find really helps me with agitation, but I had to drop to a lower dosage, and I am not finding it's not as effective.  I have also noticed when I take the Abilify along with my Adderall it helps increase my energy and productivity.

I am also talking with my Psychiatrist about putting me on an AD (Wellbutrin), in the near future to hopefully better address my depression and lack of energy.

For one reason or another I have not had any luck with any other anti-psychotic, mood stabilizer or atypical medications, and am pretty much at my rope's end with new medication to try (minus ADs).

Best of Luck,

Hi.  I am taking Risperdal and 300 mg. effexor xr and 20 mg. Celexa.  It has been trial and error but finally with the increase of the effexor xr and addition of Celexa I still have some depression and some mood swings but overall, I am MUCH better.

I took Prozac for many years and really good success, really worked great for me and after several years it lost it's effect on me.  Sometimes it it a matter of increasing your present meds.  Best of luck to you.

I take Seroquel for Bipolar 1.  Do you have Bipolar 1 or 2?  Welbutrin works good for me when I am depressed.  Seroquel knocks me out at night so that I don't get manic and need hospitalization.  It's worked for 5 years, but it causes daytime drowsiness and I can't really work or drive much anymore.
When I was on depakote I could hold down 3 jobs and go to college, but it started affecting my liver.  Lithium was awful for me, but some people do really well on it.

I feel like I need  a change in medication because what I'm on doesn't seem to be working.  I don't feel any better than when I started.

I think that this is a good question for your new Psychiatrist.  What are the reasons you feel you need a change in medication change?
