Electro-shock therapy, brain implant, etc.

by RubyShooz, May 09, 2008 03:38PM
Has anyone tried electro-shock therapy or the new "brain implants" (a chip implanted in your brain to stimulate certain nerve receptors) -- as an alternative to all this medicine that is available and in my case the meds cause such nasty side effects (weight gain, hair loss, extreme fatigue).  When I mention this to my doc he kind of brushes it aside, I think his belief is what my husband refers to as "better living through chemistry" -- doc says the meds are the best way to treat it.  Any thoughts?

I was just reading about electro shock therapy last night.  I have never heard of the brain implants though.  Electro-shock seems very scary.  They think it works by causing a seizure that then stimulates nerve receptors.  It can have side effects too, like memory loss.  It is only used in the most extreme cases.  That is probanly why your doc brushes the thought aside.  He probanly believes that the risk of these treatments outway the benifits.   I hope you find something that works for you and that you can tolerate.  Good luck and hang in there!
