How long does it take for Depakote side effects to subside?

My doctor started me on Depakote 250mg 2x daily about two and a half weeks ago.  I have been having bad side effects from the medication, constant nausue and vomiting, headaches, dizziness and lightheaded.  I am trying to find out how long it will take for these side effects to subside.  I stopped taking it last night and have contacted my doctor and am waiting on a response from him.  Can anyone PLEASE help me??

Be careful if you discontinued it all at once. That was not the right way to do it as there will be withdrawal symptoms. Those are bad side effects and your psychiatrist would have titrated you off but it has to be done slowly. I had the same side effects. I could not tolerate Depakoate. I found Lamictal to be more tolerable and other people have as well. But there can be interactions between the two from what I believe so they can't be taken together. Ask your psychiatrist about Lamictal. That's a known mood stabilizer. But there may have to be a period of time of two weeks from what I remember with me while the Depakoate gets out of your system. And I strongly reccomend not discontinuing a medication all at once as there can be withdrawal symptoms. Speak to your provider about Lamictal and explain why you went off the Depokoate but as for remaining side effects and withdrawal symptoms expect it to be difficult for a while and before he can put you on another medication, if its Lamictal which is a possibility, the symptoms of bipolar, especially mania will return in full force as the medication gets out of your system so that's something to guard for as well.
