I have racing thoughts

I am schitzo effective, obsessive compulsive and post traumatic stress syndrome.  I find that I constantly have racing thoughts which severly have caused me to loose sleep.  Every other day I am up all night.  I am interested in finding a medication that might control these thoughts.  My body will not accept SSRI's or anti-deppresents.  Any helpful ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If it's purely sleep that you need, I'd recommend taking a sleep aid, like Ambien, or one of the others in this class.
What did your Dr. prescribe for you after you received this diagnosis?

I just read your post about  melatonin....A sales rep.  that sold  this supplement warned me that daily use can induce depression. He did not recommend using it daily, but only as needed.

I thought I'd pass this along to you to consider....

Racing thoughts are quite common.  I hate them too.  The right medicaton combo to help you is one key.  I went several months manic and had crazy racing thoughts.  I thought it would never end!  Finally I got on the right medications, which helped, but I still get them sometimes.  Unfortunatly, that is just part of having this disorder, no matter what level of bipolar you have.  I am BP I, mixed state, rapid cycling.  One thing that helps me a whole lot is my ocean wave sound machine.  I got it off of ebay.  I listen to the ocean waves and breathe with them, helps break up the racing thoughts.  Here is the link for it:

It does have a black light in it that is bright, so I spray painted mine with plastic safe paint.  Luckly the black light burnt out and now I just enjoy the sounds!
Also, melatonin helps balance your sleep pattern.  I take 5mg each night.  It is great.

Hope this helps!

Hey buddy I would give Seroquel a go, it's a mild anti-psychotic but it is quite efficient in slowly down the mind and also promotes relaxation....

Take Care and feel free to ask me for advice anytime Dude

I have Ocd and I know what it's like to have an anxious mind
