Is My Mom Bipolar?

I honestly don't know what to do and I believe there is something wrong with my mother.  She has only been doing part of what she normally does around the house, talking to her is like a roller coaster she snaps and yells one minute and is giddy the next and I literally mean minutes between these phases.  One day she will be happy and the next angry. The week is just ups and downs.  She now recently decided she wants a divorce with my father and she has changed eating and sleeping habits.  To be completely honest I thought I was kidding saying shes acting bipolar but I don't know how much of a joke it is anymore. PLEASE HELP

Elise, I just wanted to say that I agree wholeheartedly with the advice you have given. It sounds like from the responses I have read above that the readers are not aware that you get a bloodtest for menapause and or peri menapause. Suggesting someone may have menapause instead of suggesting a visit to the dr for bloodwork to see if that is the problem is the thing to do. I just had to add that piece in there. You are so right, so many people with mental illness don't even realize what's happening. Having your thyroid checked is also very important because many of the mental illness symptoms mimic a thyroid condition.

I think you should talk to your dad and take her to an ER when health care professionals examine her they will determine whether  or not she might need some help. When I was sure my sister was bipolar nobody listened , she became really bad and stayed in the hospital 3 months! That all could've been prevented with 1 doc visit and some meds. I see your concern for your mom is sincere and so is my answer to you when I tell you take her to an ER. It could save tin of heartache in the future. Some of those "symptoms" were also the same my sister experienced. If your mom is having issues because of menopause I'm sure she would've rationally made herself an appt at an obgyn..? People with mental illness on the other hand are usually very unaware of how to help themselves when experiencing their illness. If you should have any other questions please feel free to reach out to me. Good luck to u and dad!

SAME THING HERE

I just sent my mom a text literally seconds ago telling her to get help or I don't want her in my life. I found out today that she's apart of this family of G+ users....she left our house and got an apartment 4 months ago (claiming she needed to help her self) she hasn't told my dad she wants a divorce yet but now I think my dad is gonna slap papers down on her table saying it's over. Just today I went on G+ and found that she has been either physically or cyberlly (definitely is a word) cheating on my dad. He's pissed, I'm pissed, we're all pissed :(

Is this bevaiour of someone with BP?  And how about your mom have you noticed erratic bavaiour and a HUGE lack of motivation?
