It is very important that you take your daughter to a psychiatrist right away. The symptoms you are saying could be bipolar but could be other things as well. Since we are not doctors, we are not able to know what her problem is. Psychosis can be part of bipolar. Being suicidal can also be part of bipolar. But they are also symptoms of other things. If what she is saying is true, you need to have her seen right away. If you can't get her in with a psychiatrist first due to insurance or often it is hard to make a first appointment, at least a psychologist. But psychologists cannot prescribe medicine, but they may be able to refer you.

If you believe your daughter may actually act out on what she is saying, or that she is in danger, do not be afraid to take her to the ER. They have psychiatrists on staff at the hospital.

I have never been hospitalized for bipolar personally, but I know someone who has. When she has sever episodes she goes to the hospital and sees a psychiatrist and they adjust her medication. It gives her a break, a place outside the world to get back in order. Then she would return much better. She usually stayed for between a few days to a week.

If she is suicidal, they will want to keep her for a bit, maybe a day or so. They might make her sign a paper saying she promises not to commit suicide. They would probably start her on medication and observe her, let her talk to a psychiatrist, etc. They take suicide very seriously at the hospital. If she is threatening other people, I don't know what they do.

But, when people are in real danger of themselves, the hospital can be the fastest way to treatment.

It is good she has a dad that cares. She is very lucky.

Wow, she really needs some professional care.  Like Xila said, we're not doctors - but schizophrenia sounds like a possibility too due to hearing voices.

Just get her some help ASAP.  I'd like to hear how the progress goes too so keep posting.  Best wishes for your family.  ♥

Well, this person I know who goes to the psych hosiptal, she's a smoker. I think they are allowed to smoke in designated outside area. The nurses keep the cigaretts, though. Maybe if your daughter is under 18 they won't let her smoke. When you go there to visit, you have to sign in and are asked questions by a police officer who holds the only key in and out. You have to pass under a metal detector as well. This is just for visiting.

The thing is, if your daughter really needs help, and is considered a danger to herself and others, then she needs to go. I am surprised that the police have not already taken her if they were involved in something. It is better to go to the hospital than to jail. And it is much better than the other alternative. She can and will get better if she receives the right help.

Her having a mental illness and needing a hospital does not mean you're a bad father. You are a good father because you actually care enough to even make an appointment with a psychologist. So many parents out there do not care and just let their kids fail, blaming the kid and telling them they are liars, worthless, and manipulators. Like I said, she is lucky to have you.

Thanks it means alot! well she is 15 so the police say she hasnt got enough choice, they was going to section her today to a MH ward but they said they cant allow her because shes not voluntry? This world gets wours day by day.We will have to see what the doc says tomorow he might involve social services but what can they do? can they reffer her to a MH ward?

I think if she does attempt something it can be involuntary. Sometimes it is hard to get someone suffering an episode to realize how bad off they are or want help. It is hard to ask for help for so many reasons, including fear of medication and fear of losing yourself and becoming someone else. I've had that fear. When I was a teen I was always afraid my family would lock me up in a hospital and I would have to live there. That is not how it works, though.

I don't know how social services works, never dealt with them. But a doctor could refer her to stay for a stay, I think. Not sure.
