Is the only way to get help to go to the local er?

My husband and I moved here about 6 weeks ago, 800 miles from home, and I'm all over the map.  Sleep problems, I keep forgetting to take my meds, I've been "self medicating with alcohol in the evenings", I keep having nightmares about my mothers death, I have no friends, my husband works all the time and it seems nearly impossible to find a doctor.  There are no doctors in Lawrence availible, KU med center hasn't returned any calls for new patient, I know whoever I go to won't mess with my meds the first time probably.  I really don't want to go to the hospital because it costs so much money even with insurance.  Why is it so hard to get into to see a doctor?  Especially in such a vast area.  Topeka, KCK, Kansas City MO, Overland Park, Etc, Etc,.

Thankyou, it just seems like pulling teeth trying to get into see somebody.  I did finally get an appointment about 45 minutes from my home.  Finding a new doc is really scary though, my last experience was a bad one and it was at the worst time in my life.  That's when I finally just went to my family doctor.  Now, I just sort of feel like I'm in the middle of the ocean by myself with no visual help in sight. Thanks for the encouragement, I sure do need it right now.

There must be a mental health clinic in your area -- look it up in the phone book.  They can refer you to a treatment center at little or no cost to you. You must try to get help.  If necessary, you can even call 911 -- explain it is not a true emergency, but you do need a referral to mental health resources in your area.  Depending on your ability to pay, you will probably receive financial assistance for your treatment.

Please don't delay.  Help is available no matter where you live.
Hugs,
Ruby
