Job difficulty

I work in the Mental Health field, oddly enough, and I love my job, but it's extremely stressful, and I think it contributes to a lot of my depressive mood swings. If this is the case, is there a possibility that if I choose to stay in this field, I won't progress very far with managing my symptoms and moods?

Think about if the work overall contributes to your life as a whole including economically and if there are other jobs available that you find less stressful and more productive. Its a complex question. Sometimes its a matter of seeing what aspects of the job are the most stressful and setting up reasonable accomodations around them.

there is a say: It isn't necessary to do something you love but more important to love what you do. So perhaps your job opens for you a challenge to understand more these types of illness. Also perhaps with time you will learn how to cope better with the stresses in your job. Unless it becomes totally unbearable and hurts you badly really badly then you can look for other jobs.

I only wish to remind you with something, I don't know if you are BP or not, if you are one, then all jobs are stressful or seem to be so for us and any other job you take will be the same. I have a governmental job from 10am-3pm (5 hrs) and i find it very stressful simply because all jobs are demanding, otherwise why they pay you !!

yeah, I'm BP, and my job is a bit more stressful than most I suppose. I work with several really aggressive individuals, some sex offenders, etc. I get attacked on a regular basis. Although I will say it's usually more of an attempted attack since I'm so used to it at this point, they can't really get to me. Occasionally they get a bite or punch or whatever in. But really, it's just so NOISY. That's what I can't stand. And the repetition. I am looking into other areas within my field. 2 years to go and I'll be a Speech Pathologist. A little less violent:) But really?? All jobs are stressful for us? I just recently had this start happening to me, within the last 2 years...while I was working at my current job. So I don't know what it's like to work in other fields with BP.

Oh, my job definitely contributes to my life as a whole. But, like I said in the previous post, I will be out of this particular job at some point. I do have a major change coming up-moving back to MI from CO after 5 years-that I'm freaking out about. I know I'll go back into the same field there, too because it's a comfort zone for me. Also, I've noticed I can't handle "normal" people in customer service settings since I've been in this field...I yell at them and get mad at them and well it's just not good. Oh well...I kind of just go with things. It's always been my attitude. Don't know if it's the right one or not.
