Lamictal

HI I was recently put on lamictal 25 mg to tirate up............is this a safe med................im not bipolar but depression and anxiety and cant take ssris.............also on klonopin.................went off abilify due toproblems after 3 months low dose of 2 mg,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,pshy dr also added seroquel as needed for sleep i dont like it makes me to drugged.....so looking for others with imput on lamictal..........im so scared been on about 4 days ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,if i was gonna be allergic would i know already.......does it cause lots of side effects or weight gain...........hope theres someone out there like me that can chat with me

Lamictal is a safe and effective medication. The side effect of a rare rash is 1 in a thousand so its no reason to be concerned but that's why you have to raise it only 25 mg. a week by FDA regulation and if you have any rash report it to your doctor. I was on Lamictal for close to ten years without a problem. That risk goes down after the first six months. It is helpful on depression especially. As for sleep aides you might inquire about the medication Rozerem that works like melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle. That is safe and non addictive. Speak to your psychiatrist about all this.
