New to the board.....

I was just diagnosed with BP 2 and am on Zoloft and Lamactil.  It is all too new to see any real benefits yet.  At 42, i knew this was coming.  I have been able to cope for most of my life with the depression, mood swings, anger, recklessness at times (sexual and financial) but over the last year it has really gotten out of control.  My father is BP 1 but not taking meds, my grandmother was BP 2 and has since passed on.
What I am curious about is ranting.  There are times I go into a rant and kind of lose track of reality.  I was at a check out line and thougt I was just handing over a book I was buying until I saw this checker just staring at me.  When I asked what was wrong she asked me the same.  Apparently I had just been standing there ranting to myself for the last 5 minutes??  I had no recollection of that at all?  Has anyone else ever experienced the same type of behavior?

Before my recovery from schizoaffective disorder that happenned to me when I was psychotic and hearing voices. Other than that people with straight bipolar sometimes go through mixed states where they get agitated and worked up and its part of the moodswings. Think what was going on and speak to your psychiatrist about it. They could see what's going on and adjust the medication if needed.

The "fading out" of reality is a bit scary at times when I think that I could be driving or at work in a meeting....ugh!  I am keeping a journal for my psychiatrist and am trying to educate myself as much as I can on this.  Can I just say that this disease *****.....
