Nutritionist fixing my problem with sleeping.

Nutritionist fixing my problem with sleeping.

Hi Everyone, after a long period of mania last year I've had real trouble sleeping.  I got put onto a sports nutritionist through my tri coach and when he tested my hormones found that my adrenal glands are that exhausted that I basically don't produce melatonin anymore (natural hormone that makes you sleepy) and I have an overdose of cortisol in my system from stress.

I've been taking melatonin over the past month and it is really starting to make a difference in helping me get a better nights sleep but I still have a bit of trouble nodding off.  I went again today to see the nutritionist and he aid it is likely coming from the high cortisol in the evening, He says its like taking speed and then trying to go asleep all you will end up doing is just laying there looking at the ceiling. He has given me some Phosphatidylserine to help reduce the cortisol in my body.

I'll let you know how I go but I thought you might find it interesting as I think part of the reason some of us have trouble sleeping is because by going manic we end up exhausting our bodies of the nutrients we need daily.  I sure know since I started seeeing this guy I'm starting to feel better but it will probably take about 6 months before I really feel the difference.  I highly recommend anyone with bipolar seeing a really good nutritionist particulalry if you have a really bad manic period as it just drains your body of everything.
