Perphenazine

Has anyone here taken this drug?  I was given new meds on Wednesday and I got the prescriptions filled and of course was doing research on 3 of them Ive never taken.  This is the only one that concerns me. I was researching and Im not schizophrenic and yet that is what this prescription is for.  I was diagnosed along time ago and Ive never had a dr give me this.  Please advise because Im not going to take this until I know.  I called and left a message for my caseworker moments ago on her cell phone but no luck yet!

Its a typical (meaning in an older class such as Haldol and Thorazine) antipsychotic that is used short term for anxiety. I'd be concerned as well and perhaps you could ask your psychiatrist about the neccessity of this one and what specifically it is treating. The atypicals (newer generation antipsychotics from Risperdal to Abilify) are safer in many regards. Discuss this with your psychiatrist.
