Strange Problems

Hi what I have to say is wierd to say the least...I have been diagnosed as beinng severe bi-polar disorder...The first time in my life that I experienced any kind of mind problems was when I first masturbated...I felt like I was on a bad acid trip ..I became very paranoid and thought people were watching me....to this day I cant have a wet dream and when I almost did I felt exteme pain in my privates during the dream..I just wanted to wake up and it be over..I feel this strange sex problem is what is causing me to be bi-polar but when I tell people this and they know am bi-polar they dont take me serious...my shrink doesnt know what to think about it except keep giving me anti-pyschotic meds...Since then I have found out that my thyroid is low which I take a med called synthroid for...also found out that my testosterone levels were low as well(90 should have been over 300 for my age) I use a gel steroid to correct that..since I started hormone therapy I havent felt this good in a long time..I feel this strange sex problem is what is causing me to be bi-polar...my urology doctor checked me out and found no blockages in my testicles...what is causing this is unknown to me ..I feel I cant talk about this with my family practionar or urologist becasue they think its in my head..if anyone knows a doctor in the Charlotte,NC area that might have a clue to whats wrong with me pls reply...sincerely Ncjoe

Well I think that you should be taken seriously, especially when something is clearly affecting you to this extent.
There are a number of different reasons to why you could be feeling like this. Fluctuating or abnormal hormonal levels do have an effect on a person's mood, but bear in mind that paranoia during masturbation could be related to past trauma or could be part of your psychosis, which may be why your pdoc keeps raising the dose.
I would suggest that you try the 'ask the expert' forum, although you will have to be persistent because the daily quota of questions is quite often filled.
I personally have known others who share similar problems to yourself who suffer from psychotic illness who found it extremely difficult to masturbate due to the sense of being monitored/watched and found it difficult to talk about, so the problem just continued, so it is good you have come forward. I'm sorry I cannot be of more help, and good luck with this.

I agree with starbunny. There is another outlet. A talk doctor that is a Christian Pastor.
Now you have to be careful here because they will sometimes agree that it is not mental but a sin. Well we know that sexually heightened activity due to BiPolar is common. So if you were brought up in a strict church, subconciously you may believe you are committing a sin, this leading to the psychosis about the manner. Also, I know for a fact geodon I respond horribly to and it acts like a venus fly drug as well.
I am sorry you find pain anytime during arousal and it can't all be mental, the hormone leves have to play a part.  BUT NONE of what you have described goes  against being bipolar.  That may just be denial and may just as all of us when diagnosed take time to adjust to it. Hope you get some solid leads on what is going on but please while searching, stay on your meds and keep seeing your psych.

I am sure everybody masturbate especially boys, even grownups and married couples are reported to have done it (not all of them of course). It's the easiest and cheapest way to lift anxiety. The thing is it's humiliating a bit I would say that's all i.e. that you better have a girlfriend instead. In some religions, adultery is forbidden and masturbation is wrong. I can't see how a normal male can take that. In the zoo I've watched myself male monkeys masturbating when in custody alone, no joke. So don't feel ashamed. I know a colleague of mine who enters the bathroom during coffee breaks at work to do it but of course he never confesses. Males feel humiliatied with masturbation while they feel proud to have a girlfriend, yet if you think about it closely (i mean mechanically of course) it's the same, except that after it, you feel sad with the 1st and happy and achieving with the 2nd.

however about hormonal problem and thyroid this i have no clue about it. I can't relate either bipolarity with your sex problem. However if you take drugs then it happens often that you may have the desire and yet can't have an erection because of the meds you are taking, they cause some dysfunction. Otherwise you should consult not a pdoc but a urologist. As to the AP you take they may be responsible for this, a desire but no urge. But as being psychotic due to sex problems, it's because sex itself constitutes for many a kind of obstacle that you should cross it's like a horse jumping over a fence whether you will succeed or stumble. But when done normally with a mate it's the easiest job, so don't take it on your nerves and stop thinking hard trying to correlate masturbation with bipolarity. Forget about it man.
