Support group, even an email friend?

by tres1965, Mar 12, 2009 12:53AM
This may have, or may not have?

Does anyone have a way of finding a list of people or groups by area's?

Is this possible, or even wanted or safe?

I myself would love to find others like myself to interact with in a more personal way?
I DO NOT mean this romantically *L*
Any info would be interesting?

Perhaps this a thread worth starting for all of us and the links posted could be cleared for approval. Obviously, there are NAMI support groups in all areas:
http://www.nami.org/
And independent living centers as well (for all disabilities, though some have support groups specific to various disabilities, including mental health):
http://www.ilru.org/html/publications/directory/index.html
and this is worth reading and has some support and interaction sections:
http://www.nycvoices.org/
I'll see if I can find any more but I consider all of those to be responsible.
People can and should feel free to add. Thanks. Good idea for a thread.

I am in Australia and I go to www.grow.net.au
or the Black Dog Institute....There is also a bipolar support group @ Sydney and various states that you can get info if you are in Australia:

Have you thought about going to a support group in person?  As much as I love this place and it's been so beneficial in my recovery, going to an actual support group was key. I went for 4 months, once a week for a couple of hours. I was scared as hell at first, but by the end of the first meeting, I was made to feel very welcome, you might want to think about that.
Here's a website which you can find support groups in OK for you, I don't know if any are close to you, but it may be of some use.
