Topomax and loss of appetite

Topomax and loss of appetite

I was put on topomax (topamax) for severe headaches about two weeks ago.  I think it is starting to help my headaches, they come on later in the day now.  However, I have noticed a decrease in appetite.  I had a small bowl of cereal for breakfast, then went to Subway for lunch.  I ate about three bites of my sandwich and three or four sunchips.  Then I wasn't hungry anymore.  Next I went to the gym and rode 2.7 miles on the bike and lifted some weights.  It is now after 5:00 and I should be starving, but I am barely starting to feel hungry.  I don't think I could eat anything right now.  Is this how topomax (topamax) helps you lose weight, by supressing your appetite?

Also, I feel kind of numb, both emotionally and physically.  Could this be the topomax (topamax) as well?

Thanks for your help.

Yes Topomax (topamax) does supress a person's appetite. It is specifically marketed for this effect as well. As long as your weight is within a normal level and you don't have any stomach pains its generally okay but you could speak to your psychiatrist more if you are concerned. If you have any feeling of being sluggish or tired or cognitive blunting you could let them know as well but those are common side effects of many medications that often improve over time.
