Hypermanic bipolar disorder IS a real condition. I HAVE IT. but in my diagnosis there was more to it. Hypermania is the extreme end of mania. and is characterized by the same symtoms of mania but are more powerful..me personally because I'm Hypermanic AND Bipolar I hardly ever go into a depressive state. I feel like everything is going my way and feel like I just won the 60 million $$ lottery nevermind that I never actually have. I an normally extremely impulsive and I can seem to concentrate on a single thought. I am hyper creative and am always coming up with new stories to write or art to draw, clothes to sew. I literally can't sit still. I compare myself to being the ping pong ball in a world championship match most of the time. I don't sleep very well if at all. and when I finally do crash into a bed it's from exhaustion. but being bipolar I do have my depressive states too, however when I do go depressive my husband puts me on suicide watch and hides any and all sharp objects or meds that could harm or possibly kill me. in my personal experience I have found that someone with hypermanic bipolar disorder also has rapid cycling and mixed episodes. so they never do things mildly or in half steps. They are always doing things in the extreme. and I by far am no exception. for me my doctor proscribed Lamictal and welbutrin after I refused to take Lithium. Hope this helps.

Well site members can't give medical reccomendations but as I remember Zyprexa was very sedating (the other ingredient in that medication is Prozac). Abilify is generally less sedating and a new antipsychotic was just FDA approved called Saphris

My son is 20 and has decided he does not want to take any medications because they make him feel groggy. He was diagnosed when he was young with general anxiety disorder and it has progressed over the years. He was on symbyax for about a year. It made a total change in him. Being 20 and moving out on his own, people presuaded him to get off meds, because he would be sleepy if he took it.  He has been off for almost a year and he has hit rock bottom. He has agreed to go to the dr to discuss possible meds. Which meds do you recommend for him.   signed, desperate mother

There is no such thing.  You probably mean hypomanic, which is a little less than full mania.  Same type of symptoms as mania, but not as extreme.

hypermania is the mania you get if you have bipolar 2.

I don't think that is a real diagnosis.  Maybe the pdoc meant you are in manic phase of bipolar.  Which can look like hyperactivity
