WOULDNT IT BE NICE TO SLEEP

Hello
I have just recently joined this forum and i am hoping to meet liked minded people. I have recently discovered that i have a personality disorder - which i am only just coming to terms with. One of my other problems is my sleep (i also have a sleep disorder). I have been prescibed a variety of medications, most of which only work for a short period of time. Currently i am trying to manage my sleep with no medication at all. Has anyone else tried this method. I hated the withdrawals off prescribed medication which is my main reason for having none at all. Has anyone else experienced this? Also has anyone any advice for manageing sleep with out medication???? Any would be good......

Hi welcome to the forum I am bi polar and when I am manic I have a hard time sleeping so I keep melatonin when I need to . It is a "natural" sleep aid but it does have some of the same warning for side effects as tylenol pm and such as that .
I must say I have been on zyprexa and celexa for quite a long time now and they work great for me .
Eat healthy like 6 small meals a day,Exercise at least 30 mins a day. NO Caffiene or sugar as both of htese aggravate any  emntal disorders like ours. Try to establish the same routine every night If you do have a ny thing with caffiene try not to have itafter 5 pm or at least 5 hours before bedtime.
Learn to meditate I often take a long bath with candles and imagine all the days stress draining out the tub with the bathwater. then I sit in my chair with candles and incense burning to calm my mind and meditate. There are several good websites that offer meditation techniques. Find one that is comfortable for you and give it a try.
I hope this helps. I know it works wonders for me in my  manic hi times. and every other time.lol

I didn't sleep or sleep well for quite some time.

I don't rely on medication for sleep anymore, but I did use it to get into a normal sleeping pattern.  If you can put up with the medication, it's worth the results.

Seroquel - I hate taking it, but it got me back on track.  It took a few months.  I have some Rx'd on hand in case I find myself unable to sleep, which is rare now.

I have a REM disorder on top of the BP
I don't go through the body paralysis when sleeping, and have been a notorious sleep walker.
On top of that I have mid cycle awakening.
Since going off the SSRI's, I have found my body isn't as relaxed, but I figured I just started a new drug cocktail.. so give it time.
Usually Trazadone aka Desryl is great.. after about a week, I didn't feel hung over, and I sleep like a baby.. no waking up at all.. and it's not a tranquilizer :)  it has some anti depressant qualities :)
