What does this sound like ?

What does this sound like ?

my bf of over 2 years,is 54, has history in his teens and 20s of drug use and alcohol.
he blows up at minor things, like traffic, people in stores or on subways.
very out of proportion rages.
he smokes pot all day long.
so, i know there are addiction issues too.
he goes from loving me  and wanting to be together all the time, to then cheating and now cutting me off for 2 months..a total 180 switch in a matter of weeks time.
his behavior seems erratic, up and down, all over the map...
i was thinking its a relationship problem,. but i think its something deeper and bigger is wrong with him psychologically.
its not just me, cause i see his erraticness with most interpersonal relationships in his life.
this latest turn of events with me, just seems to be more acting out from whatever is wrong in him.
he told me he has a brother, who he no longer talks to ..was also a nut..
his 11 year old daughter is very hyper, talks non stop...moods change..laughing then can switch to crying in an instant.
i sense there is something familial going on...and this has NOTHING to do with me.
help!

wanted to add...this tends to happen in cycles...every few months we go thru this..
up and down and up and down..hot and cold and hot and cold.
it is like a rollercoaster.
his moods are all over the place ...and its confusing me as to what the heck is really going on here.
i know all of this is common with addictions..but it still feels like something else , underlying , is wrong.
again,.thanks!

I'm not a professional, but it kind of sounds like bi polar.  However, you need to keep in mind that there are other conditions out there that mimic bi polar.  The only way to know is to go see someone.  Bi polar also tends to run in families.
