XANAX TAPERING

I am on Xanax 1 mg at night since 2 months and before that 0.5mg at night for 3 years.My psychiatrist has suggested me to taper off Xanax by reducing it by 0.125 mg every week and to stop it after 8 weeks.My question to this forum is whether this is an adequate time or too rapid a tapering of xanax?.
