dialated pupils

I;ve noticed my dautghers pupils will dialate when she is under stress or pressure, since she was around 5 or 6 years old, she is 19 now ,it still happens, she has been diagnosed bi polar ,ptss depressed, anti social personaility disorder,,  I asked the DR about it and he writes in her chart ,possible substance abuse, , I told him this has been going on since she was 5 years old ... does anyone know anything about this happening when a person is under stress?

Yes!  My son is 6 - his diagnoses include Aspergers, Anxiety NOS, and Depression NOS, with possible OCD.  His pupils dialate when he's in trouble or when he's emotionally "off" - sort of an emotional shutdown, a withdrawl (withdrawal) into himself.  This happens infrenquently these days, but the stress of daily living combined with school and holidays will cause him to have dialated pupils for days.  He's only recently begun medications for his conditions - the dialation seems worse to me, but it may just be the emotional changes he's experiencing.  I have always thought it was PTSD (post-tramatic stress disorder) - we're looking into it.  He was adopted out of an abuse and neglect situation as a toddler.  The doctors have NEVER been able to explain the symptom.  Wish I had better news.  Hope it helps to know you are not the only one......Best of luck to you!
