dieting with bipolar and anxiety

I decided to make some changes in my life since the meds are not helping especially with the migraines i have. I recently did a post in another forum about the lemonade diet. I actually started around midnight last night.  For those who dont know what the lemonade diet it you not suppose to eat anything  for 7-10 or 14 days the only thing you suppose have is this special drink along with herbal tea and sea salt water at bedtime that act as a laxative. I have spoke to several friends as well as a nurse and they have some concerns because weight loss is way to quick and that i need to speak to a nutritionist (which i havent done yet) especially since the meds i was on but had to stop is still in my system. Should i stop this diet and wait until then or just finish since i already started so far i havent eaten anything since 10pm the night before.

(I had to slow down with my medication because i would sleep for days off and on and wasnt able to go to work or school)

Well i went to my regular doctor yesterday and she advise me against the doctor. she said it will be only water weight i will be losing and one I start eating again after the 10 days i will gain it right back. She also said that this diet is only going to cause the body to go into starvation mode and ruin my system. So basically i guess that diet is over for me then. The only diet she said will work 100% is the ole eating right and exercise with plenty of water.

Yeah, I didn't like the tai-bo stuff either.  On Amazon, you might find a dvd that is from his old routines.  Try looking at the descriptions.  He would start with a stretch, then aerobic (varied from low to medium impact), floor, then cool down.

I love to exercise on my good days.  I am still coming out of that deep rooted depression and I am starting to feel like my old self again.  This has caused me to be happily exercising lately!  I checked out his videos and not my cup of tea.  I really like Richard Simmons for aerobics, but they are long and I want something quick to fit in my schedule.  Gilad is doing the tai bo type stuff and I do not like that.  Where is his older stuff?  I am always up for a 30 minute routine!

I shouldn't be saying this in public, but I used to tape his workout and come home from work and do it.  His older stuff which was filmed in Hawaii was great.  He seems to be mixing in more tai bo stuff now which I haven't really tried.  I did eventually buy 3 of his workout dvd's and it was great.  Bought it on Amazon.  I haven't tried Leslie Sansone so I'll check that out.  Actually, my friend has been occupying so much of time now that I haven't done exercise in a while and I'm feeling it.

No wonder, Depakote and Seroquel and the top two bipolar weight gainers!  I told my Pdoc, no way was I going to take it due to weight gain.  I got lucky with Lithium, it works great for me and little to no weight gain.  Mine comes from depression.  Have you tried taking the magnesium I recommended yet?  If you take it morning and night at 250mg each you should notice a great difference in two weeks.  That is when I noticed.  I wonder if that liquid diet aggrivated your headaches? I only like water ice cold too, so I have a Breta pitcher that stays full in my fridge!  Or I put tons of ice in my cup before filling it up with water.  As far as meals, what about healthy choice dinners?  They are full of chemicals, but lower in calories and carbs.  I used to eat them all the time.  Then I changed from ingesting chemicals and I pre-cook my meals or pack them the night before.  It is all about timing and there are ways to make it happen.  I have been on this raw veggie kick lately and that is very quick and easy.

Frndinneed- I am going to check into those videos too!  Do you like Leslie Sansone?  Great indoor walking workouts!!

I forgot to add, fad or rapid weight lose diets do not help with maintaining your weight.  So, you'll lose the weight, but you'll gain it all back once you get off it.  Look at Luthor Vandross and Oprah, they lost a tremendous amount of weight, but got it all back and then some.  Now Oprah watches what she eats and exercises.

I tried the 3 day diet (at 20 years old) and I got so sick.  Not all diets are geared for everyone so you have to take into account your physiology.  My stomach started to burn because of the acid build up of having no food.  I lost weight by doing Gilad Jancklowitz's 30 minute (more like 20 minutes) work out.  It's easy, and I lost weight, but more importantly, I lost inches and I felt better.  And, I'm 44 years old.  Remember, the amount of time to gain weight is going to require at least the same amount of time to lose it.

I am on depakote250 mg  and seroquel 200 which i stopped taking a few days ago because i couldnt stay awake, go to schoo, work and care for my son because the meds put me to sleep for 16 hours
no i havent spoke to a doctor yet but i called the hospital to speak to another doctor who advised me to speak to my regular doctor so they can refer me to a nutritionist. and he also advise me not to (because its not safe) contiue with the diet so i stopped it the next day. even though i still want to do it i will wait to talk to a professional especially since me being bipolar and having migraines that is so severe. I do like water but it has to be ice cold but i do prefer juice :) and when i do eat its meals that is on the go because i am always busy. that wh i figure the lemonade diet would be perfect. but i will wait and see what the doctor say

Yeah, I can understand the frustration.  I went from a size 10 to a size 20 six years ago very quickly due to depression and got up to 240 and I am 5'10.  When I was diagnosed, at that time unpolar, I was put on Wellbutring and bam, I lost sixty pounds in a year and got back into that size 10.  I weighed around 175 to 180.  It was great.  Then I went off of the Wellbutrin, thinking I did not need it (yeah right!) and gained back up to 213 and was in a size 14-16.  Now I am back on the Wellbutrin along with my Lithium and I have lost 8 pounds in a month.  So now I am at 205 and can get into some size 12's again!  I am hopeful.  Are you on weight gaining BP meds?  That can make it very difficult to lose weight.  Also, drinking that much soda is really bad too!  Do you like water?  I drink a lot of water and I do not drink soda, but rairly.  I like 100% juices, water and tea sweetened with Stevia.  I just know that heavy system flushes can be dangerous when you are taking meds to balance your brain chemicals.  Have you asked your doctor if it is safe?  Do you like to go walking or exercise?  Do you eat well balanced meals?  Not eating can pack on pounds too, cause the body retains what it can get.  Another lady on this forum turned me onto Leslie Sansone home walking videos and they rock.  You might want to give it a try!  Take care.

Actually I heard about the diet years ago and then recently started to read about online. I also read that it get rid of any toxins in the body that might be in the body. I also wanted to lose some of the weight I gain especially since I want to be in law enforcement (hopefully) and i am going to school for nursing. but that wont be until early next year. I just figured if I just get rid of the weight now I wont have to worry about it. And also since being on meds since last september I gained so much weight(25lbs) plus the extra weight I had gained since my son's birth almost five years ago which was20lbs. it not even funny. Plus me being so impatient I like to see results quickly or i will get discourage.

But the thing is with me I dont even eat alot thats the thing. The only things well people tell me is I do drink alot a soda 2liters almost everyday. which i stopped 2 days ago so hopefully that might work.

oh by the way I am 5ft 0 ; 185lbs
see what i mean

Why are you doing this to your system?  I was told not to do any extreme dieting after I was diagnosed.  I lose weight the old fashioned way, proper eating habits and exercise.  It is coming off slowly (I gained during my deep depressive episode that is now lifting) and slowly is fine.  I love me no matter what and know that I will get there in time.  As long as I lose my 30 pounds by my wedding date next May!  I know I will.  Anyhow, is there a reason why you are trying to lose so quickly?  That is very stressful on the body and might not be such a good idea.  Us bipolars have to be more careful than regular folks.  We have to take care of ourselves and our wellbeing in order to be the most stable we can.  This diet will probably flush out any meds in your body and probably throw you up or down.  I would rethink this if I were you!
