I was put on geodon after risperdal too. The risperdal was causing weight gain that I was not comfortable with. The geodon has worked fine although I am now weaning off it too. At first I was taking 160mg a day. Now I'm down to 60mg a day. I'm starting to go down a little lately but I don't know if it's from the decreased dose of geodon or not. I'm weaning off of all my meds right now.

I am bipolar 2 with PTSD. I was on Geodon, risperdal and  lithium. The geodon was added last, and the risperdal was weaning down.  I took it when it was new.  For a few months, I did okay with it and didn't really have any problems. It was stopped because it eventually caused perceptual,,, especially visual, disturbances all of a sudden, and I ended up misjudging the freeway and drove my car over the embankment. Luckily, a large bush cushioned the impact and I didn't get hurt, but  the firemen did have to extract me from my car since I landed sideways. I managed to continue on and go to my class, and the car only had a slightly bent  axle. Only the people in the 2 cars behind me who saw me go over where the ones who were rattled by the event.

When I saw my psychiatrist for the usual weekly appointment  and told him what happened, , he said it was the Geodon and took me off of it immediately. After that, my perceptions went back to normal .

Geodon works great for some people and horribly for others, like any psych med on the planet.  It is less likely to make you gain weight compared to others in the same class, and may be less sedating, but you'll really have no idea how it will work for you until you try it.  I think it's also the least likely to cause metabolic problems out of the atypical antipsychotics, but any of them can potentially do that.

It should help with the bipolar, but I don't think it would do much for the dissociation or PTSD unless those are being made worse by the bipolar.
