i'm off risperdal now. please help

hi everybody.
my name is steve. I am bipolar with psychotic features.(delusions, mania, hallucinations). i was put on risperdal and ativan. The doc wasnt gonna give me anymore cause i told him i was smoking pot. I was later hospitalized again and given ativan and risperdal again....after i had quit the pot use and the alcohol use...but didnt like the effect of them this time. So i tapered myself off them and straight into a manic episode with psychosis. I was hospitalized again and put on a higher dose of risperdal, and later ended up getting a 25 mg shot every 2 weeks. this went on for nearly 3 months. i have been up to 4 mg while on the tablets. Either the risperdal, or the bipolar has flattened my emotions.I get no pleasure out of life anymore. I am currently on depakote and seroquel, but got doubts on the seroquel, cause i hear bad things about all antipsychotics. now my question....is this permanent? The doc took me off the risperdal last month. my last shot waS ON AUGUST 11TH. When will this end? Will i ever get my emotions back? How long is this supposed to last? i am only 41, i am supposed to have a good life ahead of me, but now i feel like it has ended. I used to have a lot of fun, playing my guitar, listening to music, chillin with friends, and shopping and whatever else.  Please, i would like to hear from people who have gone thru this and have gotten better. please dont hijack this thread. thank you

To answer your question. Yes, I have gone thru the way you are feeling and it has never gone away for me due to the meds. I have tried dozens of different meds and my body is still the same. Just keep in mind that everyone is different with what meds do to them. I do hope you will get these feelings back we speak of.

I would recommend getting into a routine that involves not having a movie playing if you can.  I know it is isn't easy because I have done it and still do at times but not often.  Reading something can activate the chemicals that aid in sleep also there are medicines that work if you like to go that route.  Some people don't believe this but if you go to sleep constantly with a tv going or what not your mind does not de-sensitize? correctly as you sleep and you wake up more stimulated than you should be.  This can lead to desires and needs that stimulate us more in the day time and we lose interest in the things we used to enjoy.
I hope this helps and I would give it a shot but that may not even be the sull extent of things.  It is just an observation I made on myself.

Walking will work just fine and yes I think it would help.  Do you sleep with a tv on?

well, the typical day that has been thrust on me is, wake up, cigarette and  coffee, eat, look online for solutions to the risperdal problem, smoke and read, play a game, smoke and read, eat, crack open a cold soda, do what ever until i eat again. i drink a lot of whey protein, raw honey, eat tuna (brain food), oatmeal for calming effects it it supposed to have, . i take my meds at night and go to bed. i am unable to work due to severe panic disorder...but even that i was able to at least live with. i want to experience joy and happiness again, but my dopamine is still blocked somehow. i am waiting for my new laptop to come so i can play ps1 for pc games.. can exercize really help me? you mean like going for a walk, or rigorous exercize?

Oh ok,
In my experience this will come two ways.  Either you can live and do your best to wait for it or you can do things that aid in the hastening of it.  I don't know if we have talked about exercise yet or if it was someone else but if you do not exercise that is one thing that can help.  Also if you have too much stimulation in your life that can make it more difficult to enjoy the music and feel emotions.  Like if you have to drive an hour for work, if you watch too much tv, if you never get any time alone.  If I knew more about your life I could give you better advise but humans are complicated.
What is a typical day for you?

Unless I am mistaken you have been off of the Risperdal for a month or so now.  The effects of it should be gone by now.  What do you mean by feeling normal?  Some people say normal and they mean happy.  If you are wondering how long it will take you to feel happy again- that is a complicated question but I can try to answer it by asking some questions.  What do you mean by normal Clifford?

That makes sense.  As you got more tolerant to the medicine you will notice that your concentration gets better and you need less sleep.  Stick with it because it does help and eventually you may even feel like you are healed and you don't need the medicine any longer but it is just because it is working.  Don't make the mistake that others do and come off the medicine.  Be extra careful when you start getting back into Resident Evil because you may have some nights when you think about skipping the medicine so you can play longer.  Always take the medicine.  If you don't want to sleep but the medicine makes you, that's ok.  The game will be there tomorrow and skipping the meds will only make you unstable in the end.
