is hearing evil voices normal with bi polar?

my 11 yr old is diagnosed with bi polar.. i ahve it also, i dont hear voices ever but she says she hears voices about hurting her family and herself.. is this normal

I am not a medical proffesional and I do have Bipolar Disorder but I imagine that when chemicals are upset in the brain anything is possible. The brain is where all thoughts start so when a defect occurs so does a deffective thought occur. I would defiently have the little one seen by a doctor for future counseling. That is a strong emotion to deal with at 11 years old.

Its not a specific symptom of bi-polar but like said when the brainchemnistry is upset lots can happen. Its important she get help with this.Lily

Actually if bipolar disorder has psychotic features, the person in question can hear voices from what I know.  I also even knew someone with psychotic major depression who heard voices.

Hi as an add on to advice from the previous answerers id just like to say yes this can be a very nasty symptom. When I was younger before my diagnosis I had similar psychotic features and I was treated for major depression with psychotic features. I was treated with anti depressants and anti pyschotics. Unfortunately the anti d's triggered rapid cycling and lithium was then added to the mix. If it helps I no longer hear voices, it stopped around age 20. Now during an episode I have classic bipolar features. This horrid symptom seems to be found mostly in the young, so I pray your child grows out of it. I think with me personally it was because I had no way of understanding that I was ill, no outlet for my symptoms that my brain kind of shorted out and I experienced quite extreme brain function, I thought I had powers of telekonesis and I would akin a lot of experiences to someone who had taken hallucination drugs. Very scary and very hard to be around peers. Your child needs immediate treatment as it can be treated easily. Bless her, its so cruel, I am thinking of her, I hope she grows out of it too!

I also forgot to add that folks with Bipolar and Schitzophrenia(sp) can hear voices possibly and or have wrong perceptions of reality depending on the severity of the disease.

But with medicines these symptoms can be eliminated its just chemical upset
