If you find this insulting please ignore, I mean it in all sincerity.
Try

"Transforming the difficult child the nurtured heart approach" a book by Howard Glasseer

He has a website.

My ADHD son is now a top performing student.  When he was 9 he was suspended 17 times!  Without drugs and with behaviour management he turned around.  He is a very well behaved 17 year old.

I take Abilify & Zoloft, the abilify is a great, I mean great drug.
I've only been on Zoloft 3 months & it is working so far, so good.
As far as a 9 yr. old? Not sure?
Wish I knew more...

Does your doctor say its safe?

To be really and totally honest about my personal feelings and only my personal feelings putting a 9 year old child on a habit forming drug like Zoloft or any SSRI is to my mind not the greatest idea - While I can conceive of a child who is depressed (I was one sometimes)  I would truly think there are better treatments for a child that young than drugs like zoloft which can cause major dependancy issues in adults - coming off these drugs is almost impossible for many.

Now as i said its personal opinion only so please do not take it a bad way but if it was my 9 year old I personally would be seeking a second opinion.

As to safety - only a doctor can tell you - i cannot comment as I think SSRI drugs are massively over prescribed because they are seen as 'safe' which theyre not if you do some reading.  I am biased and freely admit that so please take that into account when reading what i say.

Either way here's praying your daughter is ok ;)

As monkeyc said ask your doctor dont take our word on it. Sticking a 9 year old girl full of those kinds of drugs is damaging to her immune system as it is you really should check with a doctor if your considering mixing and matching.

Has your 9 yr old been diagnosed bipolar, have they checked for any other medical reason before they got to here.

My Daughter is 8 and I have been posting here for a few weeks because we were all coming to the conclusion that there was no explaination for her behaviours and depression.

She has had a thorough exam, both mentally and physically, just as I was giving up hope of any explaination except BP a blood test last week showed she has celiac disease and although they have said this will not answer all her problems it can account for mood swings, irratability, anxiety etc.. she is now on a gluten free diet and they think that she may also have another physical reason for her problems and you should ensure they elimitate all of these possible reasons before diagnosing BP. She was checked for celiacs when she was 2 and this was dismissed back then so they dont always get it right.

Im not saying they are wrong but make sure especially before subjecting this young body to these drugs..

just another mothers thoughts, i wish you well and support as i know how hard things can be.
