medication weight gain

i've read that carbamazapine won't cause weight gain but since i've been prescribed 400mgs a day i've put on a stone in weight in a year...i'm on a healthy diet, i walk to and from work, i go to the gym, mainly swimming.... i know i'm not over eating... i've even tried weight watchers... the weight is going up and up.... i'm going to ask my psychiatrist to change my meds to topamax.... i actually stopped the carbamazapine but i started suffering from a constant manic episode so i've had to go back on them, but i've halved the dosage... its driving me to despair.

Hello,
Unfortunately a lot of medicines used to treat depression cause weight gain. I've taken many different meds and have the same problem too. Talk to your doctor about it and maybe he can have some suggestions. If the med is working good for you, then maybe he has some ideas. Keep exercising and eating healthy! :-).
