Since I started on Depakote, it's been really really bad. I used to take Tylenol 1's for pain, which has codeine in it, and it would constipate me. I rarely take them now, but I'm constipated worse then ever! I've just started fibre pills, I tried metamucil, it's still nasty in it's supposedly "smooth" formulas. *gags* - i bought another one, no flavour, I put a tiny bit in my cat's food, I have a really old cat, and he needs a little help. its still nasty, so I'm taking the pills. I tried using an OTC regular laxitive pill, I got so sick on it. My pdoc said to eat a lot of fibre, but c'mon now, I'm not a bunny rabbit!!
I suffer from severe constipation due to the medications I take despite a high fiber diet. The only relief I have found is through a regular(every other day in my case) of Miralax.
It's the best laxative I have ever found. It's tasteless, odorless and, in my case, has no side effects.
Additionally from what I have derived from my research it can be taken long term without any long term negative effects, although I'm sure further studies are necessary since few individuals have been followed long-term.
In the interim, however, I'm willing to take my chances given the alternatibve. I feel that the benefit far outweighs any negatives that might exist.

Awkward subject but have this problem with Clonidine. Two pitted prunes a day settles it for me. When I had the problem more severely with anti-cholingeric side effect pills in the past I did have to take Metamucil or a mild stool softener but thankfully the problem is not a big deal now.
fiber , fiber and more fiber.. I take 2 fiber con every evening and it works like a charm. Drink lots of water too.

Fibre - if it's bad, metamucil
