mental illness

Hi,
My daughter is 19-years-old.  Two years ago she was hospitalized because she was suicidal.  She was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder.  In the last year, she has been cutting herself.  Two days ago she burned her arm with a car cigarette lighter and has a second-degree burn.  Her moods are either extremely manic or very low.  They can change in a matter of minutes.  I fear for her safety and well-being.  She has been in trouble with the law (breaking and entering) and often has fights with friends.  She is planning on moving out.  In the last six months, she has been overdrawn on her bank account several times by several hundred dollars.  I fear for her life.  I know I can't stop her from moving and I am scared.  She admits to smoking pot and drinking (she drives while under the influence).  Can anyone help me to help her?  I love her with all my heart and it is killing me to see her self-destruct.  Thanks.

She needs to go to a dual recovery group for a person with a psychiatric disability and substance abuse issue and needs to stop the drinking and marijuana use. If she drives while under the influence that is dangerous and until she can stop she needs to stop driving. Poor impulse control is part of bipolar and engaging in self destructive activies a part of bpd. I would assume she is seeing a psychiatrist and on medication. If she is you need to speak to the psychiatrist with her about this as her medication doesn't appear to be working. BPD is not treated fully with medication. DBT therapy is needed in addition to medication.There is a seperate forum for BPD if you want to know more about.
