My husband is bipolar other and his doctor told him to never let anyone prescribe another antidepressant to him becasue it makes him angy and he rages and lashes out. He becomes very aggressive while on antidepressent medications.
If you are depressed an anti depressant will ease the pain. If you are a bi-polar your depression is being caused by a rebounding affect of the manic phase. So if you prevent the manic phase (lithium is the drug of choice for Type 1 bi-polars) then you never go into depression. Bi-polars got life by the balls once they solve the manic issue. Uni Polars on the other hand cannot prevent the depression like us. They can only ease the pain with anti depressants. Crazy huh?
well, i have type two and never had a real manic episode (at least not one that has affected my life greatly) but i still do suffer from mood swings (which has caused, so far, at least one major problem). as for the anti depressants, i have major depression so i have took one. i started to take the second one because of a withdrawal episode (long story).
>>>should a person who is bipolar Bipolar disorder be on 2 different antidepressants at one time.
the answer is : a BP pt shouldn't take any antidepressant for start at all in order not to get manic. Of course this is easily said than done. So at least one only along with a mood stabilizer is the classical approach recommended by all pdocs.
BP is not known exactly: hereditary etc...biological, psychological or neurological but many stories report an alternative path of amino acids ...gaba...taurine etc...omega-3 etc.. until now there is no direct solution yet.
