Good advice above. BPD must be treated with long term therapy. There is much disagreement of the exact causes of BPD but it is believed to be a genetic or biological disorder that effects the same area of the brain as Bipolar. Alot of times, but not always, abuse and neglect or another tramatic events in childhood can be a cause. 2/3 of the people that have been dx with BPD suffered from childhood abuse, neglect, death of a parent or another trauma event during childhood. thus enviromental issues do contribute to BPD. Although BPD is a long process (years) of therapy to work on the emotional issues involved with BPD, it is not impossible to get healed although there may be periods of relapse. Antidepressants are usually prescribed to treat the anxiety or depression that accompanies BPD.
Yeah, I agree with the comments above. See a psychiatrist for the needed medication, and a therapist for the needed therapy. I would call ahead though, and make sure they've had experience with BPD.
Well if you were diagnosed then who diagnosed you because usually a psychiatrist makes a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder? Therapists can be helpful and talk therapy is warranted in addition to medication if medication is needed but only a psychiatrist can make an exact clinical diagnosis. I would speak to a psychiatrist.
Also there is a Borderline Personality Disorder forum on MedHelp and you may do better posting your question there.
I love your grammer *I'm a word-o-phile) but what is the context? If you've been diagnosed by a psychologist are you still under his/her care? Therapy is usefull and is effective (especially for the long term) but right now you should definitely be seeing someone with the ability to prescribe medications..
