severe depression or....

is it depression when it seems to come in waves along with suicidal thoughts?  i will be fine one minute, then the minute i start to think of my life and its issues, i get severly depressed with thoughts of suicide, but then within minutes i am ok again, but then it can start all over again within minutes...i dont understand why i am feeling this way...i have been on every antidepressant in the book and nothing has worked..it seems to get worse every year.....i have been diagnosed with depression, socail anxiety disorder, panic disorder, agoraphobia, avoidance behavoir and fibromyalgia and i am a recovering addict...i am in therapy weekly...i take cymbalta, klonipin (klonopin) (low dose), and suboxone...i am supposed to also take xanax, but its too strong for me...i cannot function on it... this just doesnt seem like the normal depression i hear other people speaking of, but maybe it is...any suggestions would be helpful...a few people have mentioned bi-polar to me...but wouldnt my therapist pick up on this?

I am sorry to hear you have suffered for so long.  I was injured on the job, to long of story to get into, but I have had many years of severe depression and 2 hospitalizations, wth trying all the SSRI's out there and not finding one that does cause such severe side effects that I don't have to stop taking the meds.  I am at this point considering the Vegas Nerve Stimulator.  This type of treatment is desinged to be used with patients who do not respond well to medication treatment.

It may be with you that are dealing so many medical conditions that one competes and affects the other.  I have found the medications are powerful and have far reaching effects.  You may to double check your blood work and see if any are causing problems that make your medical conditions worse rather than better.

There is also a program through USC medical center where they you put in inpatient center and then take your blood every few hours.  They figure out how your system is working over time and then compound a medication just for you.  This is also a treat that I am very interested in.

How does the suboxone work for you?  I have chronic pain with migraines and am on Fentanyl.  I am interested in changing to another a non-narcotic med.

Best of Luck
