Hi adel I wanted to know why are you taking 3 antipsychotics that too at subclinical doses. If I were you I would taper and stop the Risperidone and Stelazine and raise the Seroquel to thereuptic range or stop all three and start on Lamictal which is a known MS.You run the risk of Tardive Dyskinesia, diabetes if you take 3 AP's simaltenously.

My Psychiatrist said that this cloudiness of the mind is caused by all AP's and is dose dependent and said it will go away when I stop the Risperidone.Likewise I have no side effect from Tegretol but you had headache, similarly Risperidone is not suiting me but was required in July when I had Hypomanic episode but was and should have been tapered when I got better but was tapered a bit late a fact admitted to by my Psychiatrist.Anyways I will be a happy person when it will be out of my system.

i don't blame you. meds have different effects on different people. of course my mind isn't working perfectly, but is this from the illness or from the drugs, can't tell

I am convinced it is because of med as I feel better(my mind is less cloudy) after dose of risperidone has been reduced from 3 mg to 1 mg.So you can understand why I hate these AP's and want to be off them.

Hi adel do you feel that your mind is a bit dopey or clouded while on Risperidone.I have felt dopey and drugged ever since I since I started this medicine on July 18th this year and I have lost a job due to this medicine as people at work have percieved me as sluggish which I have become.Thankfully I will be off Risperidone on 22nd November and will then try for a new job.I have decided to try for another job only after I get off this med as cant take another chance.

didn't know it was for your 9 years old daughter. of course i suppose 3mg is much for her.
usually the younger you are, the less susceptibility to taking drugs, so be patient and go slowly.

You could ask her Pdoc if she could be changed to a mood stabilizer called Lamictal. It is much better tolerated with least possible side effects compared to the Risperidone and similar group of medicines.

Yes adel my bipolar is not too bad.I have been relatively stable till 2009 July when a big personal stressor brought out the hypomanic episode and I needed the Risperidone.Otherwise Tegretol has kept me stable till now.Luckily I have not had even a single side effect till now and it has kept my mood good.My only mistake recently was that I tried to stop Risperidone suddenly without tapering it against advice of my Pdoc and I had a withdrawal reaction from it.Now after my Pdoc's advice I am tapering Risperidone before stopping it.
And yes I will be lucky to if I can maintain myself only on Tegretol.I am keeping my fingers crossed.Thanks.

its my 9 year old on it, it has fixed the irratability mixed state she was in but her anxiety has sky rocketed since being on this, she has been complaining of stomach ache daily , not eating which I think is due to the anxiety, we see her doc on tuesday I just wanted to ask what your experiences were so thanks for the comments.

as far as tegretol is by far the least harmful among mood stabilizers i wish i could sustain it, but i couldn't. yes dose is also important and not only the med. I remember to have tried 3mg and i got crazy. There is also something in medicine called idiosyncrasy meaning a certain hypersenstivity to a substance. So for instance i take 3 antipsychotics the least dose in each.

About taking tegretol only, you will be very lucky not to need something else like an antidepressant from time to time. i.e. if what you need is only tegretol, then your bipolarity is mild because what i call the 3 classical musqueteers (lithium, valproex, tegretol) although it's said they are mood stabilizers but the fact that they are are more potent in mania than depression, but this is another story.

incidentally risperidone resembles abilify so i presume there is a possibility that it can cause anxiety like it, although atypical also but a 2nd generation which regulates the dopamine rather than supress it.

keep well

I had anxiety and insomnia at 3 mg but at 1 mg risperidone I am better but my Pdoc feels I can be maintained only on Tegretol so he is taking me off Risperidone and Xanax after adequate taper as well.

Yes adel I am the same guy.Maybe tegretol interacting with it.That was suggested by my Pdoc. But now I am OK so my Pdoc wants to take me off risperdone after an adequate taper. And in a few patients it can cause anxiety and insomnia but you seem to be doing well on it.Good.

i don't know if you are the same doccrrao and crazybro in which case your tegretol may be interacting with it.

true risperidone can cause stomach pain and anxiety but is rare among pts i.e. up to 10% only in occurrence, unless hell1971 is one of those, in which case you are right. for example it can cause insomnia unexpectedly though it's well known that it makes you sleep well.

I can vouch for the fact that Risperidone can cause anxiety as I myself have had it due to which I am being tapered from it.Presently I am on 1 mg and after 12 days on 0.5 mg and then two weeks later will be off it.How much is the dose are you on?.It causes dysphoria at higher doses of 3 mg or more.

i am afrraid this is not the risperidone, but it's called spastic colon (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). it just happened that they occurred by chance simultaneously.

when you have anxiety you get spastic colon and especially with the change of weather, i.e. seasonal change from summer to fall say. I know it's devastating. They reckon it afflicts up to 20% of the world's population. It's the single most common chronic health disorder in America, Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, affecting more people than asthma, diabetes, and depression combined.

I take risperidone for 7 years now with nothing of the sort, although of course i get from time to time the above because all pschy persons get it, people who are nervous, people in distress, etc...

Mind you risperidone/risperdal is one of the oldest atypical if not the oldest, besides it's an antipsychotic. For example with spastic colon they "cure" it by giving say dogmatil which another typical AP.

My modest view, risperidone is innocent
