thyroid testing

In the book The Depression Workbook, the author speaks about thyroid issues and mood swings. How does this work? And when you do a test what do the numbers mean? I will ask my doc about it too, but just posing the ? to all you smarties out there! My TSH test level is 4.967, what in the world does that mean? They say normal range is 0.320 to 5.500 uIU/ml, whatever that means. Any takers on this?

Your doctor can advise you best but you can post the question in the ask a doctor forum if you want an answer in addition in the meantime. However, Synthroid is used to treat bipolar depression experimentally so there are connections that are starting to be understood. This might help (for general awareness purposes):
