trazodone for sleep

by jen21287, Sep 05, 2008 03:26PM
I stopped taking Seroquel 2.5 weeks ago but was slowly decreasing the dosage for a month or so. Since doing this, I have had trouble sleeping and went through horrible withdrawals. Lately I have been sleeping from 3-6 hours a night
(I was prev sleeping 9-12 hrs/night) and wake up feeling exhausted. My doctor recommended trazodone and wrote a script for me. Does anyone have experience with trazodone used for sleep? I am up in the air about whether or not to take it. On one hand I want to sleep, but then I also do not want to take another med. What have your experiences been like? How do you feel on it?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I have taken trazadone for several years to help with sleep.  I have been told it is non-addictive and have gone off it from time to time with no problem.  For me, personally, it doesn't make me feel any different just able to sleep and I take it right before I go to sleep.

Hey Jen,

I have been put on diff. meds for sleep, but I find trazadone simply the best. It may take a week or so to get used to it, but you will sleep well, I have been using it for 3 years now, and sleep like a baby. I usually wake up after 8 - 9 hours. It's great!

I took it last night and still didn't sleep as much as I would have liked - 6 hours. But, I only took 25mg. My doctor told me I could take 1/2 - 2 pills a night for sleep (50mg pills). I only took 25mg, so I will try 50mg tonight. But I definitely slept more soundly and I did not wake up feeling drugged so that is a plus.

I have major sleep issues..and I actually take 200mgs a night, and sometimes it even takes a while to work, sometimes I zonk right out. It depends on how much anxiety I have had during the day, BUT I do get 8 hours, something unheard of before I started the med.  I wish you much luck! cheers Jane
