I must say that none of us here are doctors or pharmacists, and if a patient suddnely finds herself pregnant while taking these medications she needs to speak to a profesional ASAP. We cannot tell her to stop taking her medication or not, I'm afraid. This is an emergency situation which requires an emergency visit to her doctor. Many medications, when stopped "cold turkey" can have some damaging effects as well. Please remember that we are not able to give medical advice on this site, and anything like that, it is advised to see a doctor right away, barring that, calling a pharmacist for some quick answers is the next safe call on the list.

Telling a patient not to consult their physician is absolutely the wrong advice to give. We're not talking about "oh, don't eat too much garlic or eat shell fish, it could harm the baby." We're talking about serious medications and possible withdrawls and complications that could also harm mother and child, not to mention sudden drops into mania or sever depression. AND, she needs to consult her physician anyway if she is pregnant. Pre-natal care is of utmost importance, and good care of a mother who is depressed/bipolar is very necessary.

p.s. I have two healthy and happy sons despite being bipolar myself, and I saw a doctor to term with both of those pregnancies. So good luck to you and I hope if you are pregnant you have a healthy and happy pregnancy and a beautiful new baby.

If you are concerned that you are pregnant or thinking about being pregnant, you should work very closely with your doctors. Some meds are not good during pregnancy, and many psych meds are not. There are some that are okay, though, but you should not get pregnant without letting your doctor know. Also if you need an answer ASAP then call your pharmacy. The pharmacist can tell you which are not safe.
