venting

by shelby78, May 16, 2009 10:19PM
I haven't slept in days....i can't get to sleep due to hearing things and paranoia. I just went back on Abilify 2 days ago after being off of it for a week due to tremors (with other meds). I also can't figure out which way my mood is swinging. It seems to be a bit of both mania and depression. But i didn't think psychosis existed in mixed episodes. I am so frustrated. I just want things to work out and they aren't right now. This was just really to vent, but if anyone has any advice in the meantime, well that would be great. Also i have an appt. with my pdoc on the 26th and i can't get in any sooner to see him. I'm sortof at a standstill to just wait and see what happens, i hate it....

Abilify is activating meaning it can keep you up at night. You could speak to your psychiatrist if you could take it earlier such as in the morning. But it is supposed to control hearing things and paranoia because its an antipsychotic. Psychosis can exist in mixed states if someone has bipolar with psychotic features. Ask your psychiatrist what your diagnosis is and what an effective dose of Abilify would be and give it some time to build up to a proper blood level. If things get out of hand maybe he could prescribe something in the meantime to settle things until it kicks in.

This is why I dislike how a lot of websites describe Bipolar Disorder.  They leave out a lot of information sometimes and they say things like psychosis will only happen during extreme depression or mania which apparently isn't true from what I'm reading here.

You are right. Psychosis can happen when moods are shifting, during anxiety and in mixed states. I think in my case, that it is part of my BP. There have been times when I severely paranoid to the point where I would not go outside for fear of spying airplanes (!), I have had times where I thought that there were little cameras hidden in my house and someone listening on the phone.
I am on antipsychotics so now I do not have over riding thought s such as those, but still, in those off moments.......
Maybe they think they are doing us a kindness by not telling us everything. Maybe they just don't know much about the disorder. Your choice.
