zyprexa weight gain help!

I was wondering if anyone on this website is taking zyprexa for racing thoughts and irritability. I started taking it in December for these symptoms but I have put on weight taking this drug. I am not sure if it is the drug itself or if my appetite has increased. In anycase, I am really depressed about this and am thinking of switching medications or just getting off the zyprexa itself. I am also taking 20 mg. of lexapro and this has not caused a past weight gain. Please help!

Zyprexa makes EVERYTHING taste good.My doc told me to take zantac half hour befroe eating and this will supressthe appetite. and whadda ya know it WORKS!!lol I have been on zyprexa for 7 years and it has been my miracle but I did gain weight and on top that I was hypothryoid. Now I am on synthroid9 thryoidectomy sept 06 and my metabolism is working again I have lost from 225 to 198. so it is possible tyo loose weight while on zyprexa. we just have to work a liitle harder at it.          exercise at  with a30 min walk and eat 6 small meals a day Ltos of veggies and friuts NO susgar soda caffieinne. You can do it.

Thank you for your suggestions. My psychiatrist thinks that the zyprexa increases the appetite and I think that the drug makes me gain weight. She wants me to stay on it but I want to lose this weight badly. What do you think I should do? Is there another medication that has less side effects than the Zyprexa?

My Boyfriend (rather ex-boyfriend) had the same problem, he gained 40lb while on xyprexa (50 mg!!). It does cause weight gain, however if this is what helps you manage the disorder, that is more important than weight gain. Recently, my boyfriend stopped taking his medication, and went into a manic state. Your piece of mind is way more important than anything. While on xyprexa, kinda try to change your habits: stay active and eat small meals when you have a craving. I hope this helps. God Bless
