Bach's Rescue Remedy

Bach's Rescue Remedy

I have a very aggressive Female RS Eclectus, and was told by the breeder I got her from to try Bach's Rescue Remedy which has been used to calm dogs, cats and horses, but I can't find anything about it being safe for birds. The ingredients are a mixture of different flowers but it also has a 27% alcohol content. Is it safe for birds to use??

I'm not that familiar with the product but some folks at my work have used it on their birds and they seem to think it helps. Whether there's a specific mixture for birds, I don't know. Check into it carefully before you buy and I will call one of my volunteers and ask her about it.

I just posted something in the ask a vet section. In the mean time the stuff arrived today, but this morning I ordered some stuff called AviCalm which is made for birds to calm them down. The person who suggested the Bach's Rescue Remedy is a big time breeder with about 12 pairs of macaws, including a pair of Hyacinth's, plus the greys, amazon's and ekkies she breeds.

I spoke to my friend and she uses it occasionally, knows others that use it, talked to our vet at work about it. Yes, it does contain a small amount of alcohol. But because she uses such a tiny amount (about 2 drops) and uses it on their food, the small bit of alcohol in it evaporates. Sometimes she adds it to their water thus diluting it.

I'll mention the AviCalm to her.

John,

I have an RS male and female myself.    I am not sure how old your female is but my first thought is I wonder if she may be coming in season.    Not sure if you are aware of this or not, there is a website for Eclectus owners.    www.landofoz.com.     I found a links to a couple of articles for you.    Hopefully, this will be of some help.    Please let me know if you have problems accessing them and I will send them to you in another format.    Good luck.
