Hi, i just got my little sis a new parakeetyesterday , and it won't eat or drink at all, maybe occasional nibbles of its treat. And it freaks out whenever some one gets near it or passes it. is there something wrong with her?
When birds are in new surroundings they do get stressed and may not eat much the first day or two. Does the bird have an area in the cage to hide away and feel a bit safe? Maybe cover one side of the cage so it feels sheltered a bit. Let it adjust to the new sounds and sights before trying to handle it. Then spend time sitting near the cage, talking softly to the bird till it gets used to you.
If you bought the bird from a pet store, there's always the chance it's sick. But for now it sounds like a normal, nervous bird.
