Cancer Risks of using hormonal contraceptives

Hello
My girlfriend is taking an 3 months period injection as a contraceptive. I was a bit worried when the nurse informed me about the inconveniences of this practice. She listed : No menstruation, weight gain.
But i would like to know if there is any cancer risk . i tried to search online but no documentation has been foiund. I am still skeptical though.
I would like to know if there is a risk of cancer involved in injecting of hormones.

thanks
Regards
Christian
