Copper IUD, already heavy/painful period?

Copper IUD, already heavy/painful period?

I'm 24 years old and have been in a monogamous relationship for 9 months... not planning on having children for many years, if ever. I'm currently on Loestrin 24 Fe and while the side effects are better than other BCP's, the constant yeast infection and lack of sex drive makes taking it seem pointless. Since copper IUDs release no hormones, they sound like the perfect solution buuuut I'm worried about the cramping and bleeding. My regular period (not on birth control pills) is very heavy, long and painful. I cry for 2 days in a row during periods because of the pain, something I've dealt with for years. I've also never been pregnant and am worried about how that will add to the cramping and bleeding. Since I already bleed and cramp VERY heavily, should I stay away from IUDs since that will likely make it worse? Has anyone with an already intense period gotten an IUD with positive results?

I had an IUD put in and I haven't had any kids.  The IUD wouldn't fit so they had to stretch my uterus.  Before my IUD I always had light periods with no cramping.  While I had my IUD I never had a period (because I had the Mirena) but I had AWFUL cramps.  I know the copper one is supposed to make it worse too so I am sure the no kids, bad periods and the copper IUD might be a painful combination.  I had to have my IUD removed about six months after getting it because it punctured my uterus, that was PAINFUL!!  And it was because it didn't fit right because my uterus was small from not having kids.

Hi everyone,
I just had (I think it's a copper type?) IUD put in when I went on a vacation in my Country, Turkey. I've had an IUD late 90's in my early ages. Back then I really don't remember having this bleeding. I did have cramping but not this (I call it heavy)bleeding. It's been abt month and a half now I just started bleeding abt 10 days ago.Even tho its the time I should be having my regular period, the doctor who performed the insertion told me my period will start delayed first month? So I called my GYN today could only got my concern a cross to my doctor through a nurse!when she called me back after talking to the doctor she said the doctor does not know anything abt this kind (the name of the IUD is MULTILOAD CU 375)might be a copper kind but the bleeding is normal for any kind of IUD. Also said she didn't understand why the other doctor would say first period would be delayed?I should have it on my regular times. She didn't need to see me but if I want to see her they could give me an appointment? So I'm thinking, why my own doctor does not want check my status after I had an IUD put in and she wasn't the one that done it? Not much patient concern there..but anyways, as a result I decided to wait another week to see how the bleeding is going. I will have call and see abt getting an appointment next week if everthing stays the same. Just a little bit freaking out right:( did not like all this bleeding and also extreme bloading!agh:(

I had copper coil fitted a week ago. The insertion was agony and for 2 days I had severe cramps but no bleeding. However 3 days ago I started bleeding heavily and haven't stopped yet. Consequently I feel very drained and am still in pain. I expected some discomfort and some bleeding but how long will this last?

I have had an iucd fitted and absolutely love it! I always have had heavy normal periods so no difference for me. Ive never had kids never been pregnant and was scared to have it inserted but had it inserted on my period coz my doc told.me it wud be easier then coz my first time I wasn't on my period and it wouldnt go in it hurt but my second time at the clinlic I was on my 5th day my period took pain killers beforehand and she put anasthetic in me to numb the womb and I held on to my partner hand while she put it in one scream and squeeze on his hand the bam within a sec it was in! Wat I do is wen I get my period I take feminax ultra to feel no pain and use a hot water bottle and relax! Trust me a iucd is good if u want kids in the future it doesn't mess with ure body u will love it!
