Had light pink discharge for like 1 day worried about why???...

ok ive been on bc for 11 months now never havent missed a pill for the last 2 months....3 weeks ago i had my period but was around 3-4 days late.....and now 1 week before my period ive noticed very light pink discharge when i wipe and it only happened that night then the next morning and has now quit...it wasnt enough to use even a pantyliner...this has never happened before so me and my boyfriend are pretty worried about it...
someone told us it could be breakthrough bleeding??...could someone explain what that would look like??....
or anything else it could be
